Meet Laura Malandrino

Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor, APCC #15514

I offer trauma-informed and culturally sensitive therapy to individuals, couples, and families.

Rooted in psychodynamic theory, my practice integrates compassionate approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, and Existential therapy. I am deeply committed to nurturing the inherent resilience within each individual. Whether you are dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma, or life transitions, I am here to support you every step of the way. Additionally, I am dedicated to improving family communication and strengthening relationships during life’s most challenging times, both on an individual basis and within the family unit.

My therapeutic approach is deeply influenced by my Venezuelan upbringing and culture, which emphasizes respect, empathy, encouragement, and laughter.  I utilize a combination of compassion, empowerment, and humor to help you uncover your inner strength and develop effective coping strategies, making life’s ups and downs more manageable and less isolating.  This is achieved by guiding individuals to forge a stronger connection between mind, body, and spirit, with a focus on achieving balance, enhancing self-awareness, and practicing mindfulness. Each session is conducted with deep empathy and openness, tailored to meet your unique needs and guide our explorations together.

I prioritize building honest and open communication, creating a safe, nurturing environment where thoughts, emotions, and experiences can be freely explored. This foundation of trust, empathy, confidentiality, and mutual respect is crucial as we navigate life’s challenges, facilitating personal growth and healing.

Education and Experience

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from The City College of New York, followed by a Master’s degree in Social Research with a specialization in Marketing Research and Consumer Behavior from Hunter College. My formal training in therapy began with a Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from the California School of Professional Psychology, where I also became certified in EMDR. Throughout my graduate studies, I trained at Open Paths Counseling Center, providing therapeutic services to a diverse range of clients including adults, adolescents, children, and families. My clinical training is centered around psychodynamic, relational, and attachment-oriented approaches. I utilize evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), to help individuals process and release trauma that is stored in both the body and mind.
